Focus on God

Throughout scripture, we find that God is a giver.  He
gives "strength". (Psalm 29:11)  He gives "the desires
of your heart". (Psalm 37:4)  He gives "grace and
glory". (Psalm 84:11) He gives "what is good". (Psalm
85:12)  He gives "perseverance" and
encouragement". (Romans 15:5) He gives "life to all
things". (1 Timothy 6:13) He gives us "the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ". (1 Corinthians 15:57)
God does this and much more because of
who he is.

God is giver.  He takes pleasure in giving.  He is never
stingy.  When he gives, he overwhelms the recipient.
Dozens of examples can be found in
scripture but let's
focus not on what he does but on who he is.

Some may be tempted to pray that God will be in a good
mood and that he will grant the request made, but God
is a giver.  In fact, he is THE Great Giver.  When
someone asks for forgiveness, God gives complete and
lasting forgiveness.  When someone needs healing, God
gives.  When someone is in need financially, God gives.

The apostle Paul told the Philippians that they should
have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
(Philippians 2:5) Jesus gave himself as a sacrifice with
incredible humility, the extend of which we cannot fully

Giving is not only something God does, it is something
he is.  Imagine how much
joy God has when he forgives.
In fact, we are told that there is a party in heaven
every time this takes place.  God specializes in giving

When we come to the end of our resources, he joyfully
comes to our rescue.  I have witnessed his amazing
as he has given in many-coloured ways.  With great
creativity, God has given all that I have needed and
more.  His giving has made me very content.

God gives wisdom to those who lack wisdom.
(James 1:5)  He does so generously and scripture also
says, "without reproach". (James 1:5)  John Calvin
said, "this is added, lest any one should fear to come
too often to God... for he is ready ever to add new
blessings to former ones, without any end or limitation."
There is no limit to God's ability to give or to His
desire to give.

Knowing that God is a giver should cause us to
approach him in
confidence.  We can be assured that his
heart is to give.  Probably the most well-known verse of
scripture begins "for God so loved the world, that he
gave...". (John 3:16)

The apostle Paul told the Ephesians that he prayed that
God would give them "a spirit of wisdom and of
revelation in the knowledge of Him". (Ephesians 1:17)
What could be greater?  To know God the Giver is the
greatest gift anyone could receive.
